Pigeon Talk:
First of
all, I'd like to brag on my husband for being such a
good guy. Most pigeon guys could not let his wife
manage her own team in the same loft. He is doing
it, but I can tell that it drives him not to have
full control. I'll lay it out for you this way:
BYRON'S WAY His system is in his computer (his head). He would never ask even if he wanted to. He sneaks and looks in my feed buckets and sniffs it. Caught him several times. He is Dr. Pigeon. Not his style. Wants to smoke the locals even more.
MO'S WAY 1. My system is recorded on paper. I have to keep an eye on my binde. 2. If I'm not sure about something, I'll ask him. 3. I mind my own business about feed, etc. 4. I like more natural approaches to supplements. 5. I talk to my pigeons and kiss them too. They are my babies. 6. More interested in the money
races. Both agree that whoever wins, we both win!!! I spoke with a fellow fancier and told him about what we were doing and he told me that he and his wife did this once, but when she kept winning, they stopped that in a hurry. Oh boy.... but he did give women a great compliment. He said that women knew how to stick with the plan. Another fancier told me that he doesn't like for his wife to speak while he is loft flying because they come down when they hear her voice.(I personally think she would be better than a dropper). I'm sure that there are several stories out there about husband and wife flyers. I'd like to hear them! |

What I learned: A friend of our had a conversation with a Florida fancier recently that passed on some valuable information. He said that whenever you have a round of eggs that have only one that is fertile, make sure that you keep the infertile egg in the bowl with the fertile egg or add a wooden egg. As the pigeons sit on these eggs, the eggs rub up against each other helping to thin out the egg for easier hatching. Another thing I thought fascinating was that when a baby pips a hole in the egg, it takes a breath that expands its little body to break through that shell. It made sense to me. I just love God's order of things. |

Featured Feathers: This beauty is a Janssen/Meuleman cross. We have her mated to a son of a 1st and 2nd combine winner and their youngsters are super and are very consistent in the races. Its just a matter of time before we get those combine wins from this pair. This hen is incredible in the breeding cage. In fact, at the time of this photo, she is feeding two youngsters.and sitting on her second round of eggs. She is a perfect handling hen that truly feels like velvet with bright orange eyes. Just beautiful!!!!! |
