PIGEON TALK
We're Back! The OB season at the Williams Family Loft has started off with a Bang!!! The Slidell Club is flying with the GREATER NEW ORLEANS COMBINE. I like these guys. They are serious flyers and like to compete.
The first race of the season we won with my hens,
Slidell #230 and Slidell #325. They won both club races and placed
6th/200m. in the combine A race vs.376 bds. . And in the B race I
placed 1st/200m. With #325 "Billie Jill" vs.354 bds out
front by 3 minutes and 45 seconds. The 2nd week we did good with
several birds in the 10% in both races. Then came the 3rd week...My
husband the competitor Came Back with a big Win! His Dropzone 2
grizzle cock won 1st/300mi. Combine race vs. 692 birds and 1st/300mi
in club vs. 215 birds. OUT FRONT BY 5 MINUTES! That's why we call
Dropzone 2, "5 MINUTE MAN". I had to buy Byron, "THE KING
CREOLE" some Boiled Crawfish that day. We were happy about each
others wins, but the next week came around and my hen Delta #192 won
me another combine. She drove us nuts when she circled for 2 1/2
minutes before landing, but she still won. Unbelievable. Wow! 3
combines in 4 weeks. And to think I was told that combines were hard
to win. Being that we started in March, rumor has it that I have
beginners luck. I've never been lucky that I know of, but it sure
feels good that with all of my hard work...I've been rewarded by
these wins and I like it. Every race is different and its about to
get harder, so we will just have to take one race at a time and hope
that our babies will want to keep coming home out front.
WHAT I'VE LEARNED
I learned that news travels very fast in the pigeon sport. My husband loves to win and the first question he always gets is "Was it her hen or your cock?" I get a kick out of Byron the most. He is one driven individual when it comes to pigeons. On race day, you can tell who won when I step out the loft. I have a little victory dance I do when the hens come in first. So far, he has not locked me in the pigeon loft. Personally, I look at winning like playing KING or QUEEN of the hill. When you win, enjoy it for the week. It is a thrill to take the throne ,but it is also important to be a good sport when it is someone else's turn.
"5 MINUTE MAN" Au 06 Dropzone 2 Grizzle. This cock is from Harold Lamons in Indiana. He is bred down from a combination of great Ganus birds. In fact, Harold was very happy to hear that this cock had won because he had just stocked #2's full sister who was his Hall of Fame Bird in 2005. I love the win mostly because he is a grizzle. Byron will become a white and grizzle fan yet! Ha Ha

Featured Feathers: Two of our Combine Winners this season BILLIE JILL" Au 06 Slidell 325 DC. This hen is from our Tillman Townsend line. She is Fabry, Debieve and Thomas peeters. I have so much to say about this bird, but I'll tell you one thing. When she was a baby, Byron said she looked like a common. I gasped like any mother would, and told him that she would do UNCOMMON things. Way to go Billie Jill! She won us our 1st combine in OB season and she also placed 15th/300m vs.692 birds in the combine. Not too bad. I also sent her cousin # 315 to be flown in Florida and he recently placed 75th/500 mile vs.1,182 bds.in the GHC club race in the JNB loft. It looks like I might have a good racing family here. |
