Featured Feathers:  Mo's Hen Team.

This season was my first time managing my own team and what a show these girls put on for me.  I only count combine results in the 10%. (See results below) The last race was the one to break my heart. Out of 34 birds, we only have 5 hens back and 1 hen trapped in Georgia ( the man said that she was the 2nd day bird to his loft 380m). We lost all four of our combine winners and were knocked out of winning average speed. Although my heart is heavy because of our loss, I am grateful for the ones that are home. I also wanted to give my hens all the credit for helping me to look like I knew what I was doing. These guys down here are hard to beat, but I wouldn't have it any other way. We like the competition. It was a great victory for my confidence level as a flyer.

Pigeon Talk:  Wow! what a season.  Yes, the hens did show off, but the cocks were in there too. The hens just shined a little brighter. All in all, THE WILLIAMS FAMILY LOFT won 4 combines out of 12 races. That is not too bad.  We're looking forward to the next step. By the looks of our new family of birds, anyone could see that they have something special.  We want to WIN! Our results can be found at www.pigeon.org  Greater New Orleans Combine.

What I learned: I find in this sport that many flyers are quick to pull out or change when something doesn't go quite as they anticipated. I think that you need to have a plan.  The race routes are not always going to be in your favor and you may not always win, but I believe that if you prepare your birds according to what they will have to race, you have a better chance. I still think the best place to try out your birds are in an average speed one loft races.  The local races have lots of twists and turns as far as location, wind, etc. The most exciting thing about racing locally is that racing against your peers will keep you on your toes. You have to face each other. Ha. Ha.  My goal is to win of course, but staying in the top 10% is more important to me.  Another thing....A win is a win, but I am more impressed when my birds beat the odds against them. I wrote for my husband not too long ago in our Slidell Newsletter, borrowing some of Mike Ganus' words: "Remember, no one likes a winner and nobody likes to lose, either way it's all part of the sport. You can't win if you don't compete.  If you are a competitor, you will fly your birds no matter what.  May the best bird win!"

Happy Birthdays:
