PIGEON TALK: I can't believe that it is already July! Its time for The Texas Center Convention. It is being held in Lafayette, La. Only 20 minutes from my hometown of New Iberia. I cannot wait to go. Cajun hospitality and pigeon fanatics sounds like the right combination for me.A win would be nice too! July - December is money race time and this is what I look forward to. Its show time for the birds!

WHAT I LEARNED: Probiotics can be a pigeon gut's best friend. When you introduce this good bacteria, it increases the acidic levels within the intestinal tract which will help to fight off any bad bacteria that may try to come in and infect the bird. I also read that a teaspoon of Nolvasan disinfectant per gallon of drinking water regularly will help maintain an acidic environment in the droppings. It seems to me that it is important to have the good bacteria to out weigh the bad bacteria to maintain good health. We like to give our birds a probiotic on their feed 3X a week and the droppings are always good. My description of good droppings are "snowcaps that drop like rocks". Its just best to give our birds all the ammo they need to stay healthy especially in times of stress. It works good for us so we're sticking with it!

Bird of the Month:

FEATURED FEATHERS: "ABRAHAM"

AU 06 SMRP 4197 BBWFT
(Flor Vervoort, Flor Engels, and Gaby Vandenabeele.

This knockout cock is from a friend in Florida. When John Abraham came for a visit, he knew that I was a Gaby Vandenabeele fan and offered me a youngster off one his breeders. So, I picked a Gaby hen. Little did I know that he was going to mate the Gaby hen with a son of Fieneke 5000 ' s sister. I was after a Gaby and got so much more....Abraham looks a lot like his Gr.Uncle Fieneke 5000. What a gift!
