Featured Feathers: "LUCY LUI"  AU 07 A 44320

This beautiful perfect hen was given to me by our best friend Mandel Armour. He knew that I loved the Ganus "Splash for Cash" bird.  He surprised me one day by giving me this hen. I think that he and Byron were joking when they said they would fly her. I stocked her, she was my gift.  Well, when I asked for the pedigree on the bird, he brought me the parents peds and I could hardly believe what I was seeing. Lucy Lui's  sire is (1/2 Koopman/1/2 Flor Vervoot) a son of Young Klein Dirk mated to a sister of Aske. Her dam is a dtr. of a son of the phantom mated to a dtr. of the phantom. This is close enough to Splash for Cash for me!!!! And she even looks like him.  Thank you Del.

Pigeon Talk: November is more than Turkey for me. It will be one of my most active months yet. We are expecting another crowd to show up in our backyard for the Southern Classic Money race on Nov. 2nd. I love to entertain and have lots of people, but the only thing different this year is that Byron won't be here for the race. He has been asked to go on a business trip and he is stressing out because he won't be here. That leaves me. Its a good thing that these flyers all trust me to handle their birds for this time around. I feel so proud that I'm strutting around like a porky turkey. We have had to ask 4 people to help us do what Byron and I do together. Unbelievable. Is it all worth it ? Yep, You bet..Family, friends, pigeons and food is always a good thing. Besides this race, I am also planning for two awards banquets. I serve on two banquet committees, one for the club and one for the combine and they are going to be a blast. We are also getting ready for breeding season. Wow! its all for the birds. Oh and there is Thanksgiving. We are very thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving to all and God Bless You!

What I learned: I learned that its good to try out your birds in different locations. When Byron and I first got our new family of birds we were hesitant about offering their youngsters to our competition. But then when we thought about it, we said , why not? If we're going to be beat, let it be by our own birds. I am happy to report that our birds are flying from 3 lofts this year and they are all doing very well!!! Doing things this way helps me to find out what pairs to keep together, which youngsters have a good shot in money races, and so on....By far the most important thing to find out is which birds are flying for us! All in all, its been a great season so far. With our birds counting only 1st - 3rd comibine results, we have had 2x 2nd combine wins and 2x 3rd combine wins. The season ends 11/17. We still want a 1st combine win and we'd like it to be us!!!

Happy Flying.
