PIGEON TALK:

There is talk that a guy who has previously flown with the Slidell Racing Pigeon Club is coming back. They say that he was hard to beat. Well, at our Slidell Club Awards Banquet, I had the privilege of meeting the motor behind the scenes. His WIFE! She not only trained her husband's birds, but other club members' birds. She spoke my language and I was thrilled to meet another lady who knew about birds. I hope that they come on board soon. It would also be nice if they came as a team. More Hennie Power...Go HENNIES!!!!

WHAT I LEARNED

Not long ago I was told by one of my favorite pigeon fanciers that birds need time to ACCLIMATE. I so agree with that. I will tell any new flyer based on experience... when getting new birds in or when using a brand new loft, give yourself and your birds a year or two and then judge performance. Birds that we purchased from southern regions adjusted more quickly while birds from colder, dryer regions still did well, but had to deal with a climate change. How many times has it happened to you that you buy a kit of ybs and the results have not been great, but these same birds come around in OBs and win you 4 combines. It happens.  Birds have to adjust to a new home and maybe new mates and new owners. All we have to do is put ourselves in their place and you can understand it all. Happy Flying!

For one of our clients, a brother to these hens placed 2nd vs. 379b. @ 100 miles. His loft is the longest distance loft in the combine . That cock is the only child of this super family to leave our loft and it will be the last one. We suggested that the buyer stock the bird.
Our KAREN BLUE was meant to be a stock bird because of her aging parents, but my hubby wanted to fly her. She showed us what she could do in just two races in YB's, now we will see what she will do in OB's.
