FEATURED FEATHERS: "AU 06 GFL 1229 BC "MANNING"

No I did not make a mistake naming a direct son of THE PATRIOT...Manning. I can't help it, I am a ARCHIE, PEYTON, and ELI fan. My bird "MANNING" is also from a tough family and I feel that this bird's offspring will build a legacy like the Manning family. My sweet husband wanted to buy me a Valentine's gift and I chose 1229 . We won the bid and he is everything Mr. Ganus said he would be. He is show quality and he is well bred and we believe that he wil be a super breeder like his father ! This super cock is paired with "NEW DAY", our direct dtr. of "Millennium". We consider this pair to be one of our most valuable breeding pairs.

PIGEON TALK:

Promoting this sport is like playing with matches. It only takes one to start a fire if the conditions are right. I feel like the conditions are right but we need more matches. Enthusiasm is contagious and I am having such a blast with all of my ideas! April is National Pigeon Awareness Month. I would like to encourage everyone in the sport to do something to promote our pigeons and our sport. It can be as simple as handing out an AU brochure. Its too easy to say a sport is dying, but its much more fun to do something to keep it alive! Have fun and stay excited. Tell em' like I do..."Pigeon racing is the best sport in the world!"

WHAT I LEARNED

I learned that people want to get involved. Recently, I put out an email to our club members asking if anyone would be interested in helping me set up the display cases in the library for National Pigeon Awareness Month. To my surprise, one of our club officers willingly came out to help me. He is very knowledgeable about the pigeons and has seen the pigeon sport evolve into what it is today. His input was very valuable. He was showing me this countermark thingy that they used to band the birds for the old clocks and I thought to myself..."I am so thankful that I didn't try to do this sport with those clocks because my pigeons would truly have had to rely on their wings because I am sure that they would have suffered some kind of leg damage". How did ya'll ever get through it?
