FEATURED FEATHERS:
AU 07 Williams Family Loft 782 "White Girl"
This beauty is my special girl. She proved for me in these parts that White birds are no laughing matter. She even impressed my husband. Many times "White Girl" took the lead in the races although sometimes she would not trap first. There was one race that would have made her famous if she would have clocked when she came. She appeared 3 minutes out front of the entire combine but did not trap. In fact one of my other hens won that race, but it was meant to be hers. All in all "White Girl" had a spectacular seaon. She placed 4th/ 200m. vs 228 b., 5th / 200 m. vs. 212 b. (this one should have been hers) and 8th/ 200m. vs. 215 b. in the combine! Her parents were bred by Tim Macken & Harold Lamons,Jr / Dropzone Loft. I think that Byron will just have to keep putting up with my Moby White Familly.
PIGEON TALK:
Well we did it! We had an outstanding 2008 OB season!!! Combine Results: We
won Average Speed out front by 5 hours and 14 minutes. We won Champion Loft
accumulating 9748 points! In the Champion Bird category - in the top 20
positions we placed: 2nd, 5th, 6th, 8th, 11th, 12th, 15th, and 20th. We
finished the season with 4 x 1st and 6 x 2nd, etc. Our proudest moments were
the 500 and 600 mile races. Our competitors had little faith that our birds
could handle those races. I am happy to report that we placed 15th and 21st
in the 500 and 2nd, 3rd, 9th, and 10th in the 600 securing the win for
Average Speed. To view our full results, visit our race results page.
Management wise....... Byron and I were tag teaming all the way. We operated
this season at a non stop pace like shift work. It paid off and we actually
have a strong OB bird team of over 20 birds left. This is a true
accomplishment. I sure hope that the money races pan out the same for us!
We'll just have to wait and see.
WHAT I LEARNED:
I learned that winning will cost you something. I have to give
praise where praise is due. My husband Byron made a decision that
really saved us. The Atlanta Race in the middle of the season proved
to be a devastating race for many flyers. For some reason Byron
wanted to only send the cocks. He met with me and we agreed to leave
the hens home. Although we did not win it and Byron lost 1/4 of his
team, we came in 2nd, the only loft to have 2 out of the 5 day
birds. This 2nd place bird was also the bird that came in 3rd on the
600 mile race , "769 - The Nutcracker". I always did say that my
hens win the races but Byron's boys will secure the big wins!
