FEATURED FEATHERS:
AU 07 SLIDELL 385 DC LUDO/SCHELLENS HEN
This outstanding pigeon was a gift to us by our good friend Vick Corso.
This bird was in the 07 Texas Gusher 5 race series and placed in
the money for Vick. She won 1st place in the 300 /mile race vs. 237b and
placed 7th/300m vs. 220b.In the other races she placed 44th/ 150m. 53rd/
200m 202/200m (only bad race). This hen is bred off of a cock from the
CORSO/JEAN ORIGINAL PAIR mated to a proven BIECHE hen. So, we mated
DAVIC to one of our sons off of our GANUS SUPER PAIR - "THE NUTCRACKER
FAMILY". Well, lo and behold one of their children have already won a
combine 1st/ 200m. vs. 476b. and the nestmate placed 19th/200m. vs.
365b. Not bad for the first year.
PIGEON TALK:
Boy are we glad that young bird season has come to an end...We pulled off
some club wins and one combine win and some money in a money race, but it
was not a season for us to brag on. Young bird season is never our favorite
season but the birds need the experience and it is necessary for them to go
through it. This season was also a test for Byron and I on a personal level.
We had some challenges this season that we didn't have before. I had an
unexpected promotion at work just two weeks before the first race which
caused me to switch from the night shift to the day shift...not good for a
pigeon racer, but my boss agreed to allow me come in late two days a week so
that I could train my pigeons. Ha Ha. Am I lucky or what? We were also able
to get a good friend of ours to train our birds on the day that I couldn't.
Being that I was out of the loop for most of this season except for training
the birds and feeding them at 9 am on my 1/2 hour lunch break every
morning...I have served my wonderful husband notice that I am coming back in
Old Birds.
On a serious note, Byron has been so awesome taking care of the birds while
I was getting adjusted to my new position. Partnerships are a great thing to
have!!! He tells everyone that he lost his loft manager this season...well,
I'm back now!!! I'll just have 3 manager positions now, work, loft, and
family. Not a problem.....with God's help that is......
WHAT I LEARNED:
I learned that when you work hard, you win respect. I have been so
fortunate to have learned so much through pigeon racing that it has
actually carried over into my work life and home life. I don't
believe that everything you do has to be perfect, but I think that
when your heart is right and you are consistently trying your best,
it will pay off. Its just like starting off with a team of pigeons.
They are all in the running for the prize, but the ones that are
noticed are the ones that are working the hardest and the
smartest. If all is right..they will win. Don't you want to be like
that kind of pigeon?
HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!!!!
