FEATURED FEATHERS: "LADY DARKNESS" BELG. 6106801-02. This Theo Ijskout beauty is simply outstanding, but the way we acquired her was even more special. Mr. Ganus surprised us by sending us this nice hen. He instructed us to get a round off of her and auction her off at our club and give all of the money to the club. She was to be my Christmas present, but I would have to wait until January 3rd to win the bid. Byron won her for me and we went home very happy. I named her Theola after Theo Ijskout.The next day two of our friends came over and we were happy to show off our new prize and her pedigree.
Later, our friend Mandel asked for the Ganus catalog to look up "Ace's Best". As he was flipping through the pages something caught his eye and he asked for Theola's pedigree. You can only imagine how I felt when it turned out that Mr. Ganus sent us one of his showcase birds on page 38 of his breeding catalog. Yep, you got it, Theola is "Lady Darkness". (Needless to say she will retain her Ganus given name). I was truly shaking in my shoes. I had no idea. I was excited just to have a Theo Ijskout bird - known for flying hens. Now she's double special!! My Christmas gift from my honey turned into a New Year's blessing from a very generous man whom we appreciate and respect. Of course, I had to email Mr. Ganus and express my amazement and his response was simple, "I like making people Happy!!!! Well, we are happy.
WHAT I LEARNED: I learned that a pink plaque says a lot!!!!! I told Byron that I was going to fill our walls with pink plaques. I already have two now!! Ha Ha. ....P.S. Its on now, Byron is out for everybody, even little ole me.....See pictures:
