FEATURED FEATHERS: "Twilight Princess" 08 Delta Futurity 1222 BBSPL hen - This beauty is from a pair that is producing rising stars. In the 1st race of 09 Old Bird season, 1222 placed 3rd / 200 mile race vs. 469 birds. We were very proud to see her come out front alone being 1st bird to our loft. This is not the first time this pair has produced an outstanding bird. Her sister 08 Slidell 222 finished 3rd high point champion bird in club and 24th in combine. 1/2 sister 07 Slidell 772 "Jewel" finished in 08 OB at 2nd champion high point bird in combine. In the 300 mile race 1222 and 222 came together finishing 33rd and 34th vs. 766 birds. In our most recent 200 mile race a 1/2 brother to all of these girls "Edward" 08 Slidell 1051 came first to our son's loft placing 5th in club. For us, 222 placed 7th in club and 1222 placed 32nd . We are still waiting for combine results. Mind you, that these children have just had two years to prove themselves.
So, who are the pairs producing these children that keep
us in average speed? Well, the mother of this hen is my favorite hen who
will never leave this loft. She is the first bird we purchased for this loft
and she is my first Featured Feathers bird. She is my prize, "Such A
Princess". The sire of "Jewel" 772 is "King David" a CBL bird. The Sire of
"Bella" 222 and "Twilight Princess"1222 is a CBL bird we call Witpen Merckx
(a private selection made by David Scott for us) and the sire of "Edward"
1051 is a CBL bird "Sure Pic" (sure pic is a grandson of Sure Bet and is
sire of 730 Hoot/Mr.New Champ- our club champion Ace bird). My sweet girl,
"Such a Princess" is the common denominator of all this greatness. She is
from Canada bred from GFL birds. She is a granddaughter of Divine Princess,
Man of War, Solid Gold, and Super Champion. I think she's got the right
stuff along with the fellas!
P.S. We would like to congratulate our now 2x combine winner! "Big Boy" son
of our super pair KV-30 and Peacemaker. Big Boy won the 09 OB 300 mile race
vs. 766 birds. His last combine win was in 08 OB in a 200 mile race vs.215
birds. He is the Featured feathers for May 08.
PIGEON TALK:
Washing Each Others hands in this sport is a good idea! Have you ever been in a deal where things are one sided? Well, in the pigeon sport, I have found that if you are going to ask for something, its always a good idea to return the favor if you can and if it is in reason. We have just had a local / on line auction and I am so impressed with the people who have helped us out. It was good that they gave their word and you could count on it. We would always be happy to return the favor!
WHAT I LEARNED:
I learned that Balance is equal to stability. You hear so many pigeon people talk about the balance of a pigeon being so important. I don't know if it is a tell all of a great flyer, but I do know that these pigeons feel the best in your hands. When I put pigeons in human terms I understand it better. Anything out of balance will cause more stress. We had a bird that raced two races that it was not bred for, but he was able to do it. He had much heart. I am able to do a lot of things also because of a lot of heart, but something will suffer if I get out of balance. Recently, it started to feel that way, so I called my husband from work and told him that I was taking him out. It was good to take a night off from everything just to go have fun. I don't know if it made us better flyers, but it sure did feel good! Keeping it fun......
