FEATURED FEATHERS: AU 07 SLIDELL 489 "Holly" -
Golly Golly "Miss Holly", what a beauty with brains to go with it!!!! She is pure perfection in the hand and has the look of a very smart pigeon. This hen is another daughter of our awesome breeding cock named "Houdini". She really took her place this season. She placed 9th/200 vs. 219b., 32nd/200m. vs. 467b. and 11th/600m. vs. 306b. She finished 3rd Place Club Champion Bird and 18th Place Combine Champion Bird. Something tells me that she will be breeding material..
PIGEON TALK: Well we did it!! Hard work really paid off and my husband is truly basking in the glory of it all. He had his mind set like Flint to win and he did. The Final Combine results are in....Williams Family Loft won Overall Average Speed - 2nd year in a row, 1st place Champion Loft, 2nd place Master Loft, and 5 Combine wins....and yes his cocks won 4 of them. They did great!! My hen "Boss Lady" did show out with her BIG WIN. The only day bird in the 500. Now that we are in the resting season we are playing catch up and planning for young birds. Mastering young birds and winning BIG is a great ambition for us. Trust me....everyone will know it when we do!
I don't know where Byron put his blue t-shirt that reads..."You didn't beat me, I let you win". but I surely would have worn it for this Featured Feathers segment. Ha Ha..In all seriousness, who could not love someone who wants to win!!!! He's my hero.
WHAT I LEARNED:
I am always happy to add a bird to our breeding program, but lately we feel like in the distance arena we are fortunate to be able to shop in our own loft. Last year we pulled up "Karen Blue" and she bred us "Boss Lady". I started to calculate the mileage on "Boss Lady" Au 08 Slidell 250 and I was simply astounded. In just two seasons, this hen flew approximately 2400 race miles and that's not counting the training mileages. AMAZING...not only because of that, but also because of how she looks and feels. She has kept her form. Her bloodlines are old school, but she is from a family of outstanding racers. We could be daring and keep her racing, but we have learned that our winners create more winners. So, she and her mother's two sisters will go to the stock loft. Isn't that how you breed to win? We will continue to let you know.
