"MARY MARY" AU 08 MET 0823 DCPIED

This great hen is a gift from our friend Tom Wesner. He was very proud of this bird and felt that we would do good with her and he was absolutely right. She always appeared to be very motivated. For the shorter races she would come back poppin' like a cock showing that she had a lot more in her. Well, she proved that she did in the 600 mile smash race. She was the first bird to our loft placing 4th overall combine out of only 12 birds clocking on the second day. Thus, securing us the Overall Combine Average Speed. There were 306 birds shipped to that race. She was the 1st of 4 birds that we clocked. We felt very fortunate to have at least that many. We consider "Mary Mary" a great gift indeed!

PIGEON TALK: What an easy process young birds has been this year. Its simply amazing. The first group of youngsters have successfully gone through their moult and the second group is right behind them like clockwork. They are flying strong and doing all that we would expect. They are pure joy to watch...with very few losses. The first time our first team decided to route off was very scary. Twenty-three of them took off for over an hour. We thought that maybe they got caught up with other birds, but they did it again the next day, so we feel that they are on the right track for some amazing things. I don't believe that we ever had young birds take off that long on a first time. We are hoping that it means that they will do great things. All I can tell them is...."SHOW US WHAT YA GOT!"

WHAT I LEARNED:

Less Stress, more productivity! We don't push our birds when they are hurting. The moult looks like a miserable process, but once they go through it...they look and feel like a million bucks!! They are like us in many ways. We will work when we are sick, but we won't be able to give our best. Its a totally different story when we have our health. When birds are feeling good, they can take the training!!!! Be good to the birds and they will be good to you!!!!

Happy 4th of July!!!
