FEATURED FEATHERS: "NINO" AU 09 GHC 11811
Please allow me this moment to really brag on an outstanding fancier and his birds. "NINO" and his sister AU 09 GHC 11810 "MRS. MAUREEN" were donated to our Slidell Annual Fund raiser auction by John Antonino from the GHC. We won the bid on NINO but there were no bids on his nestmate so John kept her to fly. MY ONLY REGRET IS THAT I DID NOT BUY THEM BOTH!!!!!! The simple fact is "Mrs. Maureen" is one of those super pigeons that is a fancier's dream. I will let her race record speak for herself. Please keep in mind that this bird is a GHC racer in Florida. She placed....14th/1360b. @100mile , 9th/1068b.@ 100 mile, 16th/ 741 b. @100 miles, 29th/ 1086b. @144 miles, and would have been 7th / 1656b. @150 miles ( ...but due to an unfortunate miss at shipping she was not clocked, but as a bit of proof for Antonino loft... "Mrs. Maureen" was clocked under training mode. I think that she at least deserves credit for her flight...
The race records I just listed also show that she was Antonino's first clock bird!!!!! 4 x 1st to the loft documented and 1 x should have been. She also placed 34th/ 1527b. @100 miles. So, what about NINO? Well, after hearing of all of his sister's accomplishments, we were a little hesitant to put him out there especially since he had a delay in his moulting process. We were not going to lose this bird. This past race was his first race thought to be a smash race because of the funky weather conditions, but they pulled it out. NINO was our 6th bird to our loft. Only 2 minutes behind our first bird. His next race is a 300. Sure wish he would have been ready for the 100's. Regardless, NINO definitely has a future in our loft. He is the type of bird I think we need for our sprint races.
Thank you to John Antonino was being so generous and being so kind to name such a great bird after me. That's truly one for the heart.
PIGEON TALK: Well this young bird season is coming to an end and boy are we glad. Don't get me wrong...we are happy with our club wins, BUT we have a goal and we have not obtained it. Again, it has not been our year to be the winningest loft in young birds. The good news is...birds bred in our loft showed out for others by winning clubs and a combine. Not a total loss. No worries....we will keep plugging at it until we find the right combination.
WHAT I LEARNED: I learned that sometimes you just have to rub the truth in the face of your adversary. My husband almost did it. He almost convinced me to give up on my whites. We plan to downsize soon to make room for our new Black Stallion family, so of course the first ones he looked at to move on were my whites. Ha! That was until this season proved their keep. Three of our 1st clock birds were from our Moby white grizzle family . One of those was a club winner!!! For that win, my huband felt under the weather and allowed me to bring the clock for bang. The guys had a good time with that win. It really had to be a puzzling thing for my husband to see grizzles come in the first drops in a good bit of the races. I loved it!!!
Every year I give my husband a name that I call him during the race seasons. Last year it was LAROY. This year it was WILLIS.
To: My husband,
I have one question for you dear when it comes to moving out my whites..."What cha talkin' bout Willis?
Still having fun!
