PIGEON TALK...
Recently we had a surprise visit from a fellow club member
I call, "The Godfather". He is an older retired gentleman in the sport and
wanted to see our birds. As he handled our birds he told Byron what he was
looking for and guessed right on each bird. Byron was especially impressed
when he held our featured bird "Casper". He said that he would be an
excellent breeder and is strictly long distance. According to him our
birds passed with flying colors. I think that means a lot when its coming
from our competition.
WHAT I'VE LEARNED...
Ventilation is KEY! With much hesitation, we recently installed ventilators and dropped the ceilings in our loft and it has made a big difference. Its like walking into fresh air and the birds seem to enjoy the changes. I'm sure we are still a work in progress, but my best advice for building a functional loft in the south is this....whatever you can open, make sure you can shut, wherever there is light, make sure you can darken, and wherever you have air coming in make sure it can go out! Keep it dry!
A great quote: It's what you learn after you know it all that counts-

We were very fortunate to be able to purchase some of the late Tillman Townsend long distance birds. "CASPER" is the superstar of our Tillman birds. He is from the Thomas Peeters line. Casper's sire "THE GODFATHER" 91 BELG 5319729 is a sire and grandsire of many winners.
This grizzle cock has striking good looks with pearl eyes. He is fierce in the cock room, but a loving mate and father in the breeding room. We love "CASPER" and his young ones. They are strong like their papa!
