PIGEON TALK: HAPPY NEW YEAR! This year Byron and I are doing something new. We are trying two management programs to see which system works best. This means that we each have a race team. Being that our club does not allow two flyers to compete from the same loft, we will still show up on the race sheets as Williams family loft, but we will not be combining our birds. One team will be in the A race and the other in the B. Byron has OB cocks and YB hens and I have OB hens and YB cocks. Now I'm really having fun!!!!!!
WHAT I LEARNED: I recently watched the new movie
"ROCKY BALBOA" and he said some things that were valuable life lessons.
In one scene his opponent came up to Rocky and his son, threatened him
and walked away. Rocky silently took the trash talk and turned to his
son and basically told him that when people come up on you like that its
because they feel that you are a threat to them. I will be sure to keep
this in mind when my opponents say that my white grizzle birds can't fly
around the corner and blah blah blah. I prefer to approach my
competition with quiet confidence like Rocky and the Irish fancier
Ronnie Williamson. I believe that its important to know when to hush and
let the birds speak for themselves!
Bird of the Month:
"BREAKER 36" AU 06 Dropzone 36
This cock was our best race bird of the 2006 young bird season. We only flew 1/2 the season so we did not get to prove all of the birds like we wanted to. But "BREAKER 36" was a shining star for us and he has my respect. The day that he place 2nd in the combine losing only by 4 seconds he showed us the Gaby Vandenabeele in him. This bird came alone from the correct direction against a headwind and flew straight to the board and went right in. It was an incredible sight. Byron was so sick that he lost that race. I think because the bird could not have done any better than he did and was so deserving of a first place win. He has been very consistent in the races and we expect great things from him in Old Bird season. "BREAKER 36" is a GR GRandson of GOLDEN SISSI, SUPER CHAMPION, and MAGIC STAR. He was purchased in a young bird kit sold to us by Harold Lamons Jr. in Indiana.
